Mounia Dadi was born in 1980 in Casablanca, Morocco. She was raised in a fertile and creative family, encircled by two parents who paint and devote a lot of their free time to fine arts. She said "I was brought up in a family where the artistic expressions never rimed with technical achievement but the silence between two heartbeats." She was only a child when she started instinctively devoting hours watching her parents painting and with the widest devotion and curiosity questioning herself about art, trying to understand this giant instrument that held so many magnificent promises to her: The unbounded, unpolluted space of her imagination. " From that time on, she had developed numerous passions for performance and fine arts. Inspired by music, dance, opera, drama and contemporary arts, she started painting when she was only about 10 years old refusing at all times to reproduce the visible to the eye, to imitate reality. At 24, she loves the unique freedom that modern art allows you to explore. She graduated from high school in Marrakech in 1999 with a major in Philosophy and Literature. She decided then to go to Paris to study Architecture where she stayed couple years traveling around Europe. In January 2001, she went to New York where she spent four years and graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Public Relations and Art history. She believes that one cannot reconcile creativeness with technical achievement. "One may be perfect in playing the piano, and not be creative; you may play the piano most brilliantly, and not be a musician. You may be able to handle color, to put paint on canvas most cleverly, and not be a creative painter. You may create a face, an image out of a stone, because you have learned the technique, and not be a master creator. Creation comes first and creativeness is not found through technique.  You may dance and know perfectly your steps and still not have the gracefulness of a dancer. Beauty ends where technicalities start. They can not coexist" She said. She believes that one of our greatest difficulties is to see for ourselves really clearly not only outward things but inward life. When we say that we see something, do we really see it? Or are we only seeing the image that the word has created? Have you ever experienced with looking at an objective thing without any of the associations, any knowledge, any judgment, any words forming a screen between you and that thing and preventing you from seeing them as they actually are. When you feel, you see, and the very seeing of beauty is the beginning of art.

Mounia Dadi est née à Casablanca, au Maroc en 1980. Artiste autodidacte, elle le revendique comme gage de sa liberté.
 «L’artiste est, pour moi, un témoin de son époque. Nous sommes le résultat du temps et nos réactions, sont les effets cumulatifs de beaucoup de milliers d'instants, d'incidents, d'expériences, d’émotions et de ressenti. Comment un esprit qui est le résultat du temps,  peut-il se libérer de cet arrière-plan si complexe ? L’histoire de chacun de nous est écrite en nous même. De la jouissance à l’agonie, du rire aux larmes, de l’extase au supplice, chaque ride, souffrance, mal, blessure, éraflure, griffure à son histoire, nos vies se gravent comme un roman inachevé. Je crois en un monde tout en dualité à explorer, je cherche la beauté dans ce qui fuit et non dans ce qui dure, je cherche ce qu’il y a d’éternel dans le transitoire, je cherche a extraire la beauté dans le chaotique. C’est la sensibilité de chacun que j’essaie d’éveiller ou encore l’entendement d’éveiller avec un art qui pense et qui invite le spectateur à devenir le penseur de l’œuvre elle-même en se l’accaparant.» dit elle.
Peintre depuis l'enfance, ses maîtres sont des artistes comme Picasso, Dali, Matisse, Kandinsky, Dubuffet, Klimt, Modigliani, Giacometti, Chagall, Braque, Kacimi, Belkahia.....et tant d’autres! Issue d’une famille ou l’expression artistique a toujours été omniprésente, elle a très vite éprouvé la création comme une nécessité. Sa passion pour la peinture s’est manifestée très tôt dans l’enfance, elle n’était qu’une enfant lorsqu’elle se mit à consacrer des heures entières à la peinture et avec la plus grande curiosité, elle essayait de comprendre cet instrument géant qui tenait tant de promesse à ses yeux : L'espace illimité et non pollué de son imagination. Ce n’est qu’après de longues années de cheminement, d’introspection, d’expériences et de voyages (terrestres ou chimériques) que la peinture s’est imposée à elle.… Aujourd’hui,  C’est une façon pour elle de s'exprimer à part entière, c’est alors qu’elle décide de l’assumer comme on assume une vocation.
En 1999, après  l’obtention de son baccalauréat en philosophie et littérature  au lycée Victor Hugo de Marrakech, elle quitte le Maroc  pour faire ses études supérieures et va s’installer à New York. Elle obtiendra un “Bachelor of arts“ en Communications et Histoire de l’Art à Hofstra University en Décembre 2004.
Depuis la fin de ses études, elle se consacre pleinement à cette passion qui n’a cessé de grandir et de s’affirmer au fil des années.
Aujourd’hui, lauréate de l’affiche des 22^èmes Journées africaines et créoles du festival international du film Vues d’Afrique, une exposition lui a été consacrée dans le cadre de ce festival à Montréal tandis que d’autres se dessinent a l’horizon.
